چکیده

Calculations are presented for the glycine–(H2O)3 cluster anion, with glycine in canonical or zwitterionic form. The zwitterionic anions are predicted to be considerably lower in energy than the canonical anions, and the latter forms are found to be prone to isomerization to the zwitterionic anions. Therefore, we predict that the zwitterionic anions would be observed predominantly in the gas phase at low temperature. In contrast, calculated stability of neutral glycine–(H2O)3 clusters indicates that only the canonical forms of the anions would be observed in photoelectron experiments, if anions are produced from preformed neutrals. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. On the stability of glycine-water clusters with excess electron: implications for photoelectron spectroscopy.

Calculations are presented for the glycine-(H(2)O)(n) (-) (n=0-2) anionic clusters with excess electron, with the glycine core in the canonical or zwitterion form. A variety of conformers are predicted, and their relative energy is examined to estimate thermodynamic stability. The dynamic (proton transfer) pathways between the anionic clusters with the canonical and the zwitterion glycine core ...

Quasidegeneracy of zwitterionic and canonical tautomers of arginine solvated by an excess electron.

The zwitterionic tautomers of isolated amino acids have not been identified in the gas-phase despite serious experimental efforts.1,2 The main reason is that a typical OH bond is stronger than a NH bond by ca. 17 kcal/mol,3 and thus the canonical tautomer is lower in energy. Indeed, numerous ab initio calculations have confirmed the energy preference for canonical tautomers H2N-CHR-COOH in the ...

Hydrogen bond mediated stabilization of the salt bridge structure for the glycine dimer anion.

The formation of a salt bridge in deprotonated glycine dimer anions in a solvent-free environment is investigated using both infrared multiple photon dissociation spectroscopy between 600 and 1800 cm(-1) and theory. The zwitterionic and nonzwitterionic forms of glycine in this complex are computed to be nearly iso-energetic, yet predominantly the zwitterionic form is observed experimentally. Th...

Solvent Effect Study on the Stability Energies of Glycine, Alanine and Valine Amino Acides

Glycine, Alanine and Valine are taken as amino acids with an equal polar head and with thedifference in the length of hydrocarbon chains. The structural optimizations show the results of theisolated Glycine, Alanine and Valine in the gases phase, at the Hartree-Fock level by means ofSTO-3G,3-21G, 6-31G and 6-31+G basis sets. The calculations were performed for the ten (1-10)solvents using PCM m...
